The history of Mormaii
In the 1970s, Brazil was still a blank spot on the map for surfers. In search of the best waves, surfers explored the country's remote shores. They led a simple and peaceful life in the small isolated fishing villages. Garopaba is the perfect example of this and this is where the story of Mormaii began. The region's perfect waves lured Morongo to a village where there was not yet electricity nor doctors. As a doctor, Marco Aurélio Raymundo left the Rio Grande do Sul and went to Santa Catarina. He wanted to take a job at the health department and surf the empty beaches. However, staying in the water in winter was impossible due to the low temperatures of the sea.
Morongo took the initiative and sewed his own wetsuit in his living room. Word soon got around, the first orders were placed and production began. The development of the first surf suits in the country enabled Brazilian surfers to purchase one without relying on the expensive and often unaffordable imported products. Along with the development of the brand, surfing became a prestigious sport in the 80s, relying on a well-organized sports association and magazines.
At the same time, other action sports such as windsurfing and bodyboarding began to become popular. Mormaii offered the best quality here too in order to meet the new demand and also began manufacturing men's and women's clothing and accessories.
In the more than three decades of its existence, Mormaii has distinguished itself through expansion in various areas.
